After a decade leading the Martin Bodmer Foundation, Prof. Jacques Berchtold will retire end of 2026. Applications for the post of Director are now invited.
The responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:
– providing scientific and administrative leadership for the Martin Bodmer Foundation Library and Museum;
– directing, leading and motivating a team of about fifteen employees, bringing together their efforts and skills to achieve the objectives;
– supporting staff in developments and changes in the fields of bibliophilia and museography;
– liaising with public and/or private donors;
– suggesting themes for temporary exhibitions and cultural events and implementing them with the assistance of qualified curators;
– overseeing the conservation, presentation and monitoring of the collections;
– ensuring the smooth running of a research library for qualified scholars and researchers, in conjunction with the librarian;
– submitting budgets to the Foundation’s Board and monitoring their implementation;
– taking responsibility for the Foundation’s publications, developing contacts with academic, educational and cultural institutions, and showcasing and promoting the Foundation’s collections openly and in accordance with the founder’s wishes.

You are passionate about libraries, the history of books and bibliophilia.
You participate in debates on contemporary museography and have an extensive network of contacts.
You hold a PhD or equivalent academic qualification and speak and write French, German and English.
You have experience in museum and cultural project management, as well as in higher education, which has given you strategic vision and the ability to communicate effectively.
Specific requirements: presence at the Foundation’s headquarters in Cologny is required.
