Aritists’ books create a kind of complicity, if not an outright dialogue, between poets and painters or engravers.
The Museum houses several examples of artists’ books that mark the beginning of this new trend in publishing: Le Fleuve by Charles Cros (1874), The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe (1875) and L’Après-midi d’un Faune by Mallarmé (1876). All three books were illustrated by Edouard Manet.
