The Far East

India, Tibet, Japan and China have each contributed masterpieces to the Foundation’s collection of world literature, including: epic and religious manuscripts in Sanskrit; Buddhist literature; treatises by Confucius; imperial calligraphy; woodcut encyclopaedias and books. There are also examples of Noh theatre or monogatari (narrative tales) illustrated with drawings and paintings, which provide examples of the different forms of Japanese art.

The Far East collection gives the visitor an overview of the specific contributions of each civilization.
