Wolfgang Amadeus MOZART (1756-1791)
Quintet in D major
Autograph score (KV 593), 1790
Mozart composed his string Quintet in D major (KW 593) during the last year of his life. The autograph manuscript is a remarkable score. The rapid succession of strokes, the rare corrections and the two different colours of ink reveal the composer’s virtuosity.
In the first edition of the Quintet that was published posthumously, the overture had been rewritten, which was extremely unusual in Mozart’s works.
